Synthetic ester platicizers and processing additives are used extensively in the rubber industry to impart specific cured physical properties to a rubber compound and to achieve certain processing characteristics during the manufacturing process. 

A plasticizer is defined as a compounding material used to enhance the deformability of a polymeric compound.
